My Writing
Mike Siver asked to see some of my writing. This is a song I wrote about a familiar topic with me: the feeling that trying harder and harder is not the way to success. It's called "Driving" as in driving yourself to perfection.
Driving is an original song by RealitySeeker about the terrible angst and anxiety caused by relentless striving. Our culture raises us to believe we can arrive by attaining some measure of material accomplishment or ego satisfaction.
Lyrics:
Verse:
Someone said
There's a standard
You're supposed to be
But, I can't find
Any road to take me there
Pre-chorus:
I've done the things
They've told me to
God, knows I've tried
But I still don't know
Who I...
Chorus:
I'm still chasing, that
Elusive goal
And I don't know
If I'll get there
I'm gettin' old, and…
I'm still trying have my say
Trying, to find my way
But I don't know
I just don't know
Verse:
I'm so tired of striving
So tired of never getting there
But there on the horizon
That next hill
Perhaps, I will
Can I be free?
Chorus:
I'm still chasing, that
Elusive goal
And I don't know
I'm gettin' old
Still trying have my say
Trying, to find my way
But I don't know
I just don't know
Bridge:
I remember when
The future welcomed me
And I would dream of all the things
That I believed could be
And when I cast my gaze
Upon the distance once again
I'm sad
Because I remember
